Born in Guatemala City, Guatemala and raised in Los Angeles,California, Andrea Sofia Santizo is a sculptor who is focusing on merging the deeply historically segregated art movements of craft and minimalism. Through the use of the socially assigned domestic/feminine tasks, as well as atavistic, culturally specific traditions, practices, and materials, she is dismantling the hierarchical placement of the two movements within art history. By taking minimalist esthetics and craft based techniques and allowing them to coalesce, she creates sculptures that vacillate and exist comfortably between both worlds.

She is a graduate of Art Center College of Design.
